HUD Certified Housing Counselor Database Update/Renewal is used by a counselor to:

Employment validation information cannot be added or updated by the counselor. This information is only maintained by the FHA Connection Application Coordinator for the housing counseling agency that employs the counselor. Certified counselors can use Certified Counselor Employment Request on the Counseling Functions menu to request employment validation. HECM counselors can use HECM Counselors on the FHA Connection's FHA Approval Lists menu to view the housing counseling agencies that validated their employment as a HECM counselor.

HECM Counselor Roster

To retain an Active status on the HECM Counselor Roster, the counselor must:

A counselor's Roster status can be determined by using HUD Certified Housing Counselor Database Update/Renewal or the HECM Counselors lookup on the FHA Connection's FHA Approval Lists menu.

System Checks for HECM Counselors

When any information is changed by the HECM counselor using HUD Certified Housing Counselor Database Update/Renewal, a check is made in the following federal systems:

A HECM counselor is automatically terminated (removed from the HECM Counselor Roster) if a record for the counselor is found in CAIVRS. The HUD Certified Housing Counselor Database Update/Renewal is held for review by a HUD staff member if a possible record exists for the counselor in LDP or EPLS/SAM or there is a possible issue with the counselor's address or zip code. If further research determines a record for the counselor exists in LDP or EPLS/SAM, the counselor is terminated.
