When Case
Number Assignment is processed, either a case number is assigned or the case
is put on hold.

Case Number Assigned: A unique
10-character FHA identifier is assigned to the mortgage. This number is used for
subsequent case processing. For a refinance case, an authorization number, refinance
credit, and other refinance information is also provided (except for a HECM refinance). |

Case Is Put on Hold: The loan may not be immediately
assigned an FHA case number because HOC intervention is required or the name,
Social Security Number, and birth date combination of one or more borrowers failed
validation against government records. For a refinance case, Refinance Authorization
information may not be currently available. Use Holds Tracking
to continue case processing and get an FHA case number assigned to the mortgage.
