When Case Number Assignment is processed, either a case number is assigned or the case is put on hold. |

A unique 10-character FHA identifier is assigned to the mortgage. This number is used for subsequent case processing. |

The mortgage may not be immediately assigned an FHA case number because intervention by the HUD Homeownership Center (HOC) is required or there is a duplicate property address (another case in the system with the same address). Use Holds Tracking to continue case processing and get an FHA case number assigned to the mortgage. |
