Underwriter Review System (URS) Registration
Business Background

FHA Connection user IDs must be issued to employees of underwriter review system (URS) contractors doing business with HUD.

First, the contractor's designated Application Coordinator applies for an FHA Connection user ID by completing and submitting the URS Registration form. Each contractor can have up to two Application Coordinators that maintain user IDs for the entire organization. When the registration process is completed, a letter containing the Application Coordinator's six-character FHA Connection user ID is mailed to the contractor's President or Chief Executive Officer. Therefore, before processing the Application Coordinator registration, verify the mailing address HUD has on record for the contractor's President/CEO. URS Contractor Address is used to verify the mailing address. It is accessed by clicking URS Contractor on the Welcome to the FHA Connection page.

Once the Application Coordinator receives a user ID, other employees of the contractor (Standard Users) can use the URS Registration form to apply for their own user IDs. When the employee's registration is successfully completed, an FHA Connection ID is generated. An e-mail message is sent to the e-mail address provided on the employee's registration form indicating that an FHA Connection user ID was issued. If an ID was not issued, an explanation is provided. The Application Coordinator obtains the FHA Connection ID issued for the employee and discloses it to the employee.

The Application Coordinator can provide Standard Users with the appropriate underwriter review system authorizations, update nonsecure employee information, reset passwords, and terminate a Standard User ID when applicable. The appropriate HUD Homeownership Center (HOC) can also be contacted to perform these tasks as well. The HOC, not the Application Coordinator, corrects secure information (Social Security Number, mother's maiden name, etc.).

Note: The FHA Connection user ID is a unique identification number assigned specifically to an individual within an organization. Sharing the ID is prohibited.

You can sign on to the FHA Connection using the six-character user ID that was issued and the password that was entered on the URS Registration form. The FHA Connection main menu appears after successfully signing on. From the FHA Connection main menu page, you can do the following:
