Housing Counselor Registration
FHA Connection
Business Background

An FHA Connection user ID and password are required to sign on to the FHA Connection. An FHA Connection user ID is requested by completing and submitting the Housing Counselor Registration form.

The FHA Connection has the following user types with respect to HUD-approved housing counseling:

• Standard: Employee of an HUD-approved housing counseling agency who has passed the HUD Housing Counseling Certification Examination. The FHA Connection is used by counselors to (a) maintain their own information, such as e-mail address and Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) training courses completed, and (b) process housing counseling certificates online.
  
  
• Application Coordinator: Authorized employee of an HUD-approved housing counseling agency who maintains, via the FHA Connection, (a) the employment validation records of counselors employed by the agency and (b) the FHA Connection user IDs of Application Coordinators employed by the agency. An Application Coordinator can also view housing counseling certificates produced by counselors employed by the agency. A HUD-approved housing counseling agency can have a maximum of four Application Coordinators and at least two is recommended. An Application Coordinator can also be a counselor.
  

When the request for an FHA Connection user ID is approved, a six-character FHA Connection user ID is sent via e-mail within approximately 48 hours. For an Application Coordinator, an e-mail message is sent to the manager of the housing counseling agency. The manager's e-mail address on record in the Housing Counseling System is used. For a counselor (Standard user), an e-mail message is sent to the e-mail address on record in the HUD Certified Housing Counselor Database.

Using the FHA Connection

Sign on to the FHA Connection using the six-character user ID that was issued and the password that was entered on the Housing Counselor Registration form. The FHA Connection main menu appears after successfully signing on. From the FHA Connection main menu page, you can do the following:

• Change your password: Select ID Maintenance at the top of the FHA Connection main menu page and then Password Change.
  
  
• Begin work as a counselor and/or FHA Connection Application Coordinator: Go to the Counseling Functions page by selecting the following sequence of links: Main Menu, Single Family FHA, Single Family Origination, and Counseling Functions. Note: Before a counselor can process a housing counseling certificate online, employment validation information must be entered by the Application Coordinator of the housing counseling agency that employs the counselor.
  
  
• Maintain Application Coordinator user ID information: To maintain the FHA Connection user ID information of FHA Connection Application Coordinators employed by your agency, select ID Maintenance at the top of the FHA Connection main menu page and then FHA Connection ID Administration.
  

Note: The FHA Connection user ID is a unique identification number assigned to a specific individual. Sharing the ID is prohibited.
