Case/Appraisal Transfer is also used to update the sponsor or agent for the current mortgage originator.
Only the current originating lender, sponsor, or agent on record in HUD's origination system can use Case/Appraisal Transfer. However, if a sponsor is not on record for a case but remits the upfront mortgage insurance premium (MIP), the remitting sponsor can transfer the case to one of its branches as the new sponsor. The new mortgage originator, or its sponsor/agent, must be an FHA-approved lender authorized for the type of FHA case and authorized to originate loans in the geographical location of the property.
You can access Case/Appraisal Transfer through the following sequence of FHA Connection links: Single Family FHA, Single Family Origination, Case Processing, and Case/Appraisal Transfer.
If the case is being transferred to a sponsored originator, information on the sponsored originator must exist in HUD's system. If not, it must be entered through Sponsored Originator Maintenance by the sponsor/lender before Case/Appraisal Transfer is processed. Sponsored Originator Maintenance is available to authorized users from the FHA Connection's FHA Approval Lists menu. Both the sponsored originator's Employer Identification Number and the sponsor's FHA ID must be entered for Case/Appraisal Transfer.
If the case is being transferred to a mortgage originator acting as the principal for an agent, information on the principal-agent relationship must exist in HUD's system. If not, it must be established through the Lender Electronic Assessment Portal (LEAP) before Case/Appraisal Transfer is processed. Lender Electronic Assessment Portal (LEAP) is available from the FHA Connection's Lender Functions menu. The FHA IDs of both the principal (originator) and agent must be entered for Case/Appraisal Transfer.
For problems with the current originating lender (e.g., cannot or will not transfer the case), please see Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Frequently Asked Questions on the HUD.GOV website at: https://www.hud.gov/FHAFAQ.
For an endorsed case, use Servicer/Holder Transfer on the FHA Connection's Mortgage Record Changes menu to record a holding or servicing lender transfer. A lender that has been making monthly MIP payments through SFPCS Periodic simply needs to continue making payments for the case to automatically trigger a servicer transfer.
