Mortgage Insurance Certificate - Processing

An originator, sponsor, agent, or servicer can use Mortgage Insurance Certificate to obtain a Mortgage Insurance Certificate (MIC) for an endorsed case as follows:
  1. On the Mortgage Insurance Certificate Request page, enter the 10-digit case number assigned to the mortgage in the FHA Case Number field.

  2. Type the 10-digit FHA ID of the lender making the request in the Lender ID field.

  3. Click Send. Review the processing results.

Reviewing Processing Results

After clicking Send on the Mortgage Insurance Certificate page, the request is processed. You are notified if the request was processed successfully, if there are errors that need to be corrected before processing can be completed, or if the case was archived and is scheduled to be restored.

Processing Was Successful

If there are no processing errors, the Mortgage Insurance Certificate page displays the Mortgage Insurance Certificate (MIC) online. The following message appears at the top of the page: Mortgage Insurance Certificate Successfully Completed.

For HECM cases, the following additional information is displayed below the message: Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM), The Maximum Claim Amount is $[amount].

For cases with a principal reduction, the following message is displayed: Principal Reduction Amount Is $[amount].

Use the print capability of your Internet browser to print the Mortgage Insurance Certificate page.

Processing Was Unsuccessful

If there are errors that prevent processing, the Mortgage Insurance Certificate Request page appears again for making corrections. The following message is displayed at the top of the page: Mortgage Insurance Certificate Not Processed Due to Error(s). An explanation of the error is provided in the Error(s) Detected field near the bottom of the page in the Details section. The field that directly relates to the error is highlighted. Add or correct the information specified. Then, submit for processing again. Specific instructions for some of the errors are provided below.

Archived Case Scheduled for Restore

If you are authorized to use Mortgage Insurance Certificate and the case was archived, the case restore process is initiated. The Case Restore page appears with the following message: Case Restore Has Been Successfully Requested. The next business day, the case will be available for processing Mortgage Insurance Certificate. The case remains available until the monthly archive process is run. Click Previous to return to the Mortgage Insurance Certificate Request page or use the other navigation buttons to proceed to another task.
