Underwriter Registry - Processing

The Underwriter Registry allows a lender to add, change, and/or terminate a DE underwriter's information in the National Underwriter File maintained using CHUMS. You must select one of the following:

Add an underwriter: If the underwriter has not previously received an FHA-issued Underwriter ID number, the lender must add the underwriter using the Underwriter Registry in the FHA Connection.

Change (update) underwriter information: A lender may change (update) any of the underwriter's information (except the Underwriter ID and Social Security Number) while the lender is listed as the underwriter's Current Employer.

If a lender hires an underwriter who has an FHA-assigned Underwriter ID and the underwriter's file had not previously been terminated, the lender should change (update) the underwriter's file by recording themselves as the Current Employer, as well as updating any other underwriter information as needed. If not otherwise specified, the previous employer will automatically be recorded as the Former Employer and the Termination Date will be one day prior to the newly entered Hire Date.

-or-

If a lender hires an underwriter who had previously been assigned an FHA Underwriter ID but the underwriter's file was terminated for some reason, the lender must process a change, recording themselves as the Current Employer, as well as updating any other underwriter information as needed. This reactivates the underwriter's file.

Terminate an underwriter: Only the lender who is listed as the underwriter's Current Employer may terminate an underwriter. This will change the underwriter's status in the Underwriter Registry and the National Underwriter File maintained in CHUMS from Active to Terminated.
