HMDA Data Upload - Processing

The HMDA Data Upload page allows you to transmit FHA/HUD HMDA information, as required by the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, 1975. In preparation for submitting HMDA information, review the guidelines for files created using FFIEC Data Entry Software or files created using other software, specified below:

Files Created Using FFIEC Data Entry Software

If you use FFIEC Data Entry Software to create your data file, the file is created in full compliance with the HUD File Upload Specifications. However, to avoid processing errors, be aware that the Data Entry Software gives you the option of exporting your HMDA information to a text file (.txt) or an encrypted file (.enc). If you choose to work with a text file, you must name it hmda.txt. If you choose to work with an encrypted file, you must name it hmdaencr.enc. The HMDA Data Upload function allows you to submit either a text file (hmda.txt) or an encrypted file (hmdaencr.enc). It is recommended that you submit a data file because they are processed immediately; encrypted files take longer to process.

Files Created Using Other Software

If you use software from a vendor other than the FFIEC, note that the file you create and upload is not subject to naming restrictions, however, it is important to know the name and file location before you begin the upload process. Also, be aware that the data file you upload must conform to the HUD File Upload Specifications (Agency Code Seven format). If you experience repetitive processing errors, the software may need to be updated to conform to specifications. (Refer to the HUD File Upload Specifications link on the HMDA Data Upload page.)
