HMDA Exemption Reporting - Processing
Financial Institutions exempt from reporting
HMDA information are required to file a
HMDA Exemption
Report with HUD via the FHA Connection.
The
HMDA Exemption Reporting function allows
exempt financial institutions to create and/or update their annual
Exemption
Report. (For information on whether your institution is exempt, refer
to the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, Regulation C - part 203.3, or go to the
Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) website at www.ffiec.gov.)

Exemption Reporting
To file an Exemption
Report for specific year:
- On the HMDA Exemption Reporting page,
type the year (yyyy) for which the report is being filed, e.g., 2003.
- Select the appropriate action (2=Add Report)
from the Report Code field.
- Type your lender identification number in the FHA
ID # (10 Digit) field.
Important Note: Do not click the Retrieve
button (next to the FHA ID # (10 Digit)
field when filing a new Exemption Report.
The Retrieve button is only used to view or update
a previously filed Exemption Report.

Type your financial institution's Tax Identification Number in the Reporter's
Tax ID # field.

Type the name of your financial institution in the Institution
Name field.
- Type your financial institution contact person's information in the Contact
First Name, Contact
Last Name, Telephone
Number, Fax Number, and E-mail
Address fields.
- Select the appropriate choice from the four exemption reasons listed.
Note: If Other is selected, you must type
a reason below the selection field.
- Click Send (located
at the bottom of the HMDA Exemption Reporting
page). Review the processing
results.

Reviewing Processing Results
After clicking Send on
the HMDA Exemption Reporting page, the information
is processed. The HMDA Exemption Reporting Results
page appears with a Message indicating that
processing was successfully completed or that there are errors
that need to be corrected before processing can be completed.
Processing Was Successful
If processing is successfully completed, the Message
field states Exemption Report was Successfully Added.... for new reports
or, Retrieval of Exemption Report was Successful..., for revised reports.
The processed information displays below the message in read-only format. (See
Updating a Previously Filed Exemption Report to add or
change this information.)
Processing Was Unsuccessful
If there are errors that prevent Exemption Report
processing, the Message field provides an
explanation of the error. Add
or correct the information specified in the Message
field. Then
submit again for processing .

Updating
A Previously Filed Exemption Report
To change reported information, complete the following:
- On the HMDA Exemption Reporting page,
type the year for which the exemption was reported in the Exemption
Year field.
- Select the appropriate action (3=Revise Report)
from the Report Code field.
- Type the lender identification number in the FHA
ID# (10 Digit) field.
- Click Retrieve (located at the top of
the HMDA Exemption Reporting page,
next to the FHA ID# (10 digit)
field). The page is refreshed displaying
previously reported exemption information for the specified financial institution.
- Update recorded information as necessary and click Send
(located at the bottom of the HMDA
Exemption Reporting page). Review
the processing results.
